The multimedia book “Frontera Crónica” edited by Martín Caparrós and Santiago Tejedor | Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación

The Frontera Crónica project publishes “Frontera Crónica: Workshop on cross-border journalism and co-creation for the promotion of a critical view and the construction of other narratives on violence, women and migration“, a multimedia book with the final conclusions of the project.

The text brings together seventeen writers, journalists and researchers who reflect on borders, migrations, violence and social differences in border spaces and the transgressive capacity of journalistic activity. With a prologue by the chronicler Martín Caparrós and an introduction by Santiago Tejedor, director of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the book also presents an interactive map with information on Ibero-American projects and initiatives that work in defence of a more ethical journalism, as well as the resources on which the project was initially based and all the conferences and workshops in which the team of researchers have participated.

The aim of this initiative, promoted by the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación in collaboration with the Gabo Journalism Foundation, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (Tijuana) and the Mexican journalists’ network “Yo sí soy periodista” (“Yes, I am a journalist”), is to recognise the work of journalists in scenarios of violence, to propose new narratives around borders marked by migration and violence, to provide Mexican journalists working on the US border with a directory of resources and platforms to improve their stories and contents, to generate a citizen commitment interested in knowing other types of narratives on migration, to raise awareness among university students in Mexico and at UAB about social problems and to promote media literacy in journalistic and non-journalistic scenarios.
